Equipment
These are my babies:
The first sax is my Selmer Mark VI Soprano (300,000 series). I was fortunate to get this as a High School Graduation gift from my parents. At the time I had been playing a really out of tune old Silver Buescher. I will never forget that day when I went to Rayburn's Music in Boston and picked it out with Emilio Lyon's assistance.
The second sax is my Selmer Mark VI Alto (71,000 series). I bought it from a well known saxophonist here in NYC back in 1988. I won't mention his name because to this day I am sure he is kicking himself for letting it go. I sold my Yamaha YAS 62 in order to buy it. Not a bad move cause I was able to flip it for a better horn!
The third sax is my Work Horse, Selmer Mark VI Tenor (103,000 series), which I obtained back in 1996. While working at Manny's Music Store I had a customer come in who's father had passed away and he wanted to sell his two Mark VI Tenors. Luckily for me the store was not buying anything at that time so my boss gave me permission to make him an offer. One was a 80,000 re lacquer and the other was the 103,000 which I instantly fell in love with. I turned around and sold the 80,000 for the same amount that I paid for the two horns so I basically got a free horn.
The fourth sax is my back up Tenor. It is a 79,000 series. Great horn but a little dark for me. Got it back in 1993 from an old timer who was retiring from playing. I am sometimes tempted to sell it but decided to keep it as a back up horn just in case!
